Your Golden Years can Really be Golden

mengeroutsideHave you considered what you want your golden years to look like? Will you move from your home of thirty or forty years to another state to enjoy grandchildren? Will you move in with your son or daughter’s family or will they move in with you to share expenses or for you to help with childcare? It’s never too early to start thinking about it or maybe even—dreaming. Dream about your golden years?

If you travel on the frontage road of I-10 going from 46 toward San Antonio, and if you don’t go too fast, you’ll find a retirement mengerlibrarycommunity that will bring many good dreams. Nestled under the trees, Morningside Ministries at Menger Springs is a baby boomers’ haven. Last Friday, I was fortunate to be a guest of Cordi Tostenson, Director of Marketing, as she “showed off” her exciting world to a group of bloggers.

This single retirement living campus offers independent living cottages and apartments, assisted living, rehabilitation facilities, skilled nursing care and memory care. Much thought was put into the architect of the campus; each and every cottage and room was designed with safety in mind. Every door handle has a special arching that prevents the snagging of purses or coats. Electrical outlets are higher on the wall for ease of use. The flat top stoves have controls on the front and the coils light up to warn the surface is still hot.

When moving to Morningside Ministries at Menger Springs, seniors are welcome to bring their own furnishings allowing for an immediate feel of home, and they can even bring their beloved Fido or Fluffy. One resident opened her apartment to us for viewing. Her antique furniture and family pictures told a story of her life and felt very much like a cozy home.

The luxurious campus has a restaurant-style dining room that offers meals ranging from soups and salads to salmon and shrimp. Another dining area, the Bistro, allowsmengerfood for casual dining or a cup of coffee with good friends. An indoor heated pool and spa accompanies a gym full of all kinds of exercise equipment while a barber and beauty shop offers full services. The thirty-four acres allows for beautiful walking trails and sitting areas amongst the trees and serene landscape along the Menger Springs Creek. The property also offers a professional putting green. For the quieter times, a library and reading room gives a warm cozy environment for reading, and the Activities Director keeps the activities calendar chocked full of fun things to do and places to go.

Okay, so I guess I sound like a commercial, but I honestly think I have found my retirement home. Even if I hadn’t reached retirement age yet, I could have moved in here at fifty-five. Now I just need to convince my husband to sell our home and join the baby boomers’ lifestyle.

What about you? Maybe it’s time to start brainstorming your golden years. Write out your plan and consider the excitement your future might hold for you.
