The Perfect Career for Me

Throughout life, my question has been the same: “What do I want to do when I grow up?” And now that I am all grown up, I am still asking the same question.

I started out as a teacher, became a door-to-door encyclopedia saleslady, then decided head-hunter was for me. I stopped questioning for a few years when I married and gave birth to three beautiful children and started working the hardest job in the whole world—Mom to three preschool munchkins.

I quickly fell for every schooling thought process that came along—home school, only way to go; public school, be a light in the world; private school, semi-protect your children. My whole life was wrapped around them. The day came when I was supposed to help direct my own children into the right career for them.

Wait—hold the phone—at that time, I was still trying to figure out my own path for when I grew up. And now in the empty nesting stage of life, one child has moved back in with us.

So what would God have me do when I am all grown up? I think I know. I realize it is little pay for many hours of cooking, cleaning, counseling, consoling, and cajoling—but it’s all very clear now. I can “C” God’s career for me.

Motherhood is the only career that offers no retirement, but gives long-lasting rewards.

Thanks for the encouragement, Brenda. Both for the blog and the parenting.

I like this very much. I know where you are coming from, I’m still trying to figure out what God is wanting me to do. Somehow it’s always taking care of the children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. You write so beautifully Judy.
