Memoir Writing Prompt: What Winter “Fun” Do You Remember?
Memoir Writing Prompt: I called my brother today who’s trying to stay warm in his cottage in the Berkshires. The zero degree weather has led him to exhausting his entire wood supply in the two weeks he has been there. He’s ready to return to Miami tomorrow.
Born and raised in Pennsylvania, he and I both know and have always loved winter. As kids, we looked forward to riding our six-man toboggan and our sleds down the hills and ice skating on farm ponds in the moonlight. We even saw the excitement in our dad getting stuck in a ditch trying to get home from work. To us, riding the International tractor through the icy air to pull the car out tended to be just another fun experience for us.
Today, with my brother in Miami and me in San Antonio, it’s obvious that we no longer see the thrill of cold winters.
Memoir Writing Prompt: Perhaps you grew up in an area where winter meant snow and fun. Tell of a winter experience you enjoyed as a child. If you never saw snow as a child, write about the first time you did.
Today’s Writing Prompt: It’s January 8th. Write what you did today or are going to do. How did/does the weather effect your plans? And again, look for the positive in today.
Have fun writing for your generations to come.
