Memoir Writing Prompt: Memories of High School
What do you remember of your senior year in high school? The better question is “who” do you remember from your senior year in high school? Last May, I attended my 50th high school reunion in Wellsboro, PA (putting 50th in writing looks like such a high number). I truly enjoyed the entire weekend of reconnecting with “old” classmates. This last week, a classmate of mine died. She did not attend the reunion. I hadn’t seen her since high school but another friend reminded me that, due to health issues, Susan didn’t attend school her senior year. At that time in my life, I thought the world revolved around “me.” So life went on. I could say that I visited my friend once a week, but I know I didn’t and can’t remember how often I did visit her at all. I could comfort myself and say that probably most seniors in high school have the same thought process that I did. As I have matured (better word than aged), I have realized that my purpose on earth is to build relationships with others. Why else would God put so many people on this planet?
Memoir Writing Prompt: Who do you remember from your high school days? Why does this person or these several people stay in your mind so vividly? What connection did you value in this person? Did you lose touch with him/her or are you still close friends today? Why?
Today’s Writing Prompt: Have you reconnected with old classmates lately? Did you maintain a relationship with one high school friend over the years? It’s easy to Google or Facebook and reconnect these days. Take the time today to do that and write about your conversation with him/her.
Enjoy writing today for your generations to come.
