December 26 Come, Lord Jesus
The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!” Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life. Rev.22:17 (NIV)
The roar of the surf at the beach always comforts me. It closes out everything except the staccato squawk of sea gulls diving for crumbs and the foggy memory of a little girl trying to not fall over as the surf washes up around her feet. Trying to stand firm proves futile: over she goes! Wondering about the many shells and feeling new sensations, she is mesmerized by the sound of the water.
Rhythmic surf muffles ears as always, and calls out to all generations. Even though we know this will pass, the sound of surf stands as testimony to the One who has a voice of rushing waters and who wants us to hear His words, and take them to heart.
He calls us and we read that He uses the word, “Come-Whoever.” Place your name in the place of whoever.
Whoever hears, and whoever wishes, must feel the wonderful freedom offered. Just as a child reaches out to grasp that beautifully wrapped gift at the family Christmas celebration, we feel compelled to reach out to grasp the offer of the free gift of the water of life.
Thank You, Lord, for being merciful to wait for me to hear You!
Thank You, and yes, “Come, Lord Jesus!”
