December 24: Joseph’s Reflection
Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph…? How can he now say, “I came down from heaven?” John 6:42 (NIV)
When I look at Him, He looks so much like Mary
and something I’ve never seen before.
It’s extraordinary to realize this baby in the manger is the Lord.
When I look at Him, I see the face of God whom man has never seen –
God’s heart revealed, to carry out His plan for all created things.
I see the very reason for all history,
the answer to an age-old mystery,
a thousand generations on their knees.
Yet somehow, when I look at Him, I see me.
When I look at him, I wonder why God chose me to watch over Him
as He grows from childhood to maturity.
God has placed this child with me to raise up as my own.
Yet for all eternity, I’ll bow before His throne.
When I look at Him, I see the Lord of Lords. I see the King of Kings,
A thousand generations on their knees.
Yet, somehow, when I look at Him, I see me.
When I look at Him, I see you.
Thank You that Jesus came as a humble child
born into the family of an ordinary man.
