December 22: Choices
But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son.
Galatians 4:4 (KJV)
Choices. They are the stuff of Christmas. Some of you probably have already made some choices for Christmas gifts. For me, buying Christmas gifts seems more difficult than ever.
As I was growing up, there were some times that I was not thrilled with the gift choices that others made for me at Christmas. For example, my mother often saw fit to include clothes and underwear among my gifts. I realized early in life that I wouldn’t always receive what I wanted but what I needed.
Did you ever think about the choices God made that first Christmas? God chose to send a baby, born of a virgin, a son, a Jew, born in Bethlehem. Each of God’s choices center in His plan to free men and women from sin. The particulars of redemption demanded the particulars of His birth. If God gave us what we wanted rather than what we needed, we would still be in our sin.
This Christmas, we will be making many choices. The most important one we can make is to trust the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior. He came for each of us!
Lord, help me to remember whose birthday it is and to make sure that I give Jesus a gift.
