A Man Called Ove

I loved this book! A Man Called Ove is probably the best book I’ve read in a long time with such a smooth and complete character development. From the very beginning, I looked hard to find any redeeming quality in Ove, a grumpy old man. Even though I disliked him, Ove drew me in to keep reading until I started rooting for him and seeing the world through his eyes. I’m not a car person, but I soon came to realize that “certain” people buy “inferior” cars, and those people can never be trusted. The very pregnant Middle Eastern lady who moves in next door understands Ove and is able to worm her way into his pain-filled heart. Through tears of laughter and tears of sorrow, I could hardly put the book down. Backman’s clever weaving of backstory was seamless making the reading a joy.
