Memoir Writing Prompt: What’s #1 on Your Bucket List?

The term “bucket list” no doubt originated from the Middle Ages when a person “kicked the bucket.” When someone was hanged, he stood on an overturned basket that was then kicked out from under the poor soul. But Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman made the term popular in their 2008 movie The Bucket List. Since then, making out your Bucket List has become not only a popular thing to do, but a necessity in some circles.

So today, I’m checking off my #1 listing on my Bucket List – visit Alaska. I’ve seen Rome, Greek Isles, Paris, England, Africa, Canada, Hawaii and Israel (a must see for everyone), but for me, Alaska has always been the #1 spot to see in the whole world! And I mean “see” Alaska. Hubby and I will experience Alaska for 3 weeks and even go fishing in the bush country where no roads lead. Ah…Alaska. Today, Anchorage is 55 degrees, a bit rainy and lush green all over. And here we come—Denali National Park!

Today’s writing Prompt: Do you have a Bucket List? Things you want to do before you “kick the bucket”? It doesn’t have to be a vacation spot, it can be something as simple as “Read my favorite children’s story to my grandchild” or perhaps “Show love to a homeless person or shut in.” Today, write down that Bucket List. Your future generations can learn a lot about you based on your Bucket List.

Memoir Writing Prompt: Write about a place you visited or something you did that would have been listed on your Bucket List if you had had one at that time.

Have fun writing for your generations to come.
