December 9: Violet’s Promise

32-jesus-star“I am the Alpha and the Omega” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”
Revelation 1:8 (NIV)

Recently, I received a very special gift from our daughter. An email, marked “Violet’s Pictures” in the subject line, caused my heart to leap with joy. I hurriedly clicked open the electronic package of love. Speechless, I studied each photo with the eyes of my heart. She seemed familiar, like I knew her already.

Tears filled my eyes. What good news. Our granddaughter! Look at her eyes wide open, and she yawned. What does she feel, think, and hear? I wondered. The modern-day technology of ultrasound allowed us to see Violet before her birth, curled up in the safety of her mother’s womb.

In a matter of weeks, Baby Violet will come into this world with the unique Spiritual gifts and talents given by her Heavenly Father. Will her family and church recognize and cultivate them?

I couldn’t help but think about Mary and Baby Jesus. Did she know the gifts of Promise her Son would bring? Did she have visions of this Son healing the sick, raising the dead, and dying for the forgiveness of our sins?

Father, nurture the spiritual gifts of our children with Living Water.
