December 28 He Came to Comfort

32-jesus-starHe hath sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; to comfort all that mourn. Isaiah 61: 1,2b (KJV)

Have you ever noticed how the enemy loves to pull little “surprises” in the middle of an ordinary day? I have. I know who my enemy is; he is busy in the world, and, make no mistake, he is out to get the ones who love Jesus.

It came out of the blue—a “love letter” from the IRS broadsided me. I was temporarily unable to relate to what was happening at the moment. My initial reaction was one of fear, but then God reminded me of the Old Testament saints and how they reacted when they were in difficult situations. Joseph endured many trials, but God’s providence overrode the many wicked deeds he suffered. The rest of the Hall of Fame saints listed in Hebrews Chapter 11 found that faith in God pleases Him, and He provides protection in the midst of trials. In Genesis 50:20, Joseph’s words to his brothers, “As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good…” (NAS) shows that his focus was upon his God.

Corrie Ten Boom’s favorite phrase…“Jesus is Victor,” showed her tremendous faith in the midst of desperate trials.

Thank you, Lord Jesus, for coming as a babe to change the world.
