December 18: Happy Birthday Jesus

32-jesus-star

And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus. Luke 1:31 (KJV)

The season had been filled with the hustle and bustle this time of year always brought. We spent our time buying presents, baking cookies and going to parties. I had little time to go to church or to read my Bible, although I did pray—when I had time. Everything had to get done before Christmas morning came. It had to be perfect.

God has a way of getting our attention when we have pushed Him aside. So we all sat in front of the tree flowing with presents. Ten of us kids, some spouses, and, of course, our parents waiting to open presents. We always followed a custom of dad passing presents out one at a time. He picked up a present ready to read the name and before he could say the name six- year- old- Debbie yelled “We have to sing Happy Birthday to Jesus.” Amidst grumbling and complaining by some, we sang Happy Birthday, Jesus.

Quietness filled the air as we remembered the greatest gift of all. Jesus Christ came fully human and fully God to redeem our souls. On that day, we were reminded Jesus is the reason for the season for us.

Precious Jesus, may this glorious time of year be spent
in worship of You. Help us to remember the greatest gift of all.
The gift of You. In your glorious name, Amen.
